Best of Dublin

98FM’s Best of Dublin Awards is an annual event to celebrate the people and businesses of Dublin.

The awards allow the public to nominate their favourites across twenty or so categories, ranging from Best Chicken Wings to Best Taxi Driver.

I was the digital designer on the campaign for 2016 & 2017. The campaign required digital display ads, as well as a designated web page to accept nominations and votes.

The awards ceremony takes place in a different venue each year, and each year requires a large scale production. As the digital designer I created all branding and assets for the many screens in these venues.

Once the awards begin, the screens are used as an integral part of the show. For each of the twenty categories the nominees are announced to the large audience using stings. Here’s one example:

Once the winner has been announced on stage by the MC, the AV team switch to another video showing the winners name on screen, and this continues to play as they accept the award. A shortened example can be seen here:

The awards are a huge occasion each year, and involves promotion across a wide range of platforms. In 2016 this included running ads on TV, print ads in newspapers, and advertising on over 800 buses across Dublin. The digital display ads delivered over 1.5 million impressions across four weeks. The end result was a massive 13,200 nominations from members of the public, with over 525,000 votes counted across the categories.
